Johnny Byrne (R.I.P.)
Sadly,I received the news this morning that Doctor Who author Johnny Byrne passed away on Thursday evening. Although he wrote three adventures for the wandering timelord, he is perhaps best known for writing for “All Creatures Great and Small”, which also starred Who actor Peter Davison.
Born in Dublin in 1935, he is one of very few Irish people to ever work on Doctor Who where he scripted the Tom Baker serial “The Keeper of Traken”, while he also penned “the Arc of Infinity” and the much maligned “Warriors of the Deep”.
It was in “the Keeper of Traken” that Byrne resurrected the classic Who character, the Master, that was originally created by Robert Holmes.
